Hi, I’m Rajat Mitra – a GTA based photographer with roots in Calcutta, India. My journey began with a borrowed point & shoot and a quiet obsession with observing light, gesture, and the spaces in between. What started in the immediacy of weddings and live music evolved into a deeper inquiry into image-making – one that now sits at the intersection of editorial, portraiture, and commercial work.
After completing a degree in Media Science and spending years photographing across India, I moved to Toronto to study at Humber College, graduating top of my class in 2025. Since then, I’ve got the chance to assist photographers such as Wade Hudson, Carmen Cheung, Natasha Gerschon, and Sammy Rawal – experiences that continue to shape my understanding of image, process, and collaboration.
My work has evolved from capturing the energy of live events and intimate wedding stories to exploring stylized editorials and commercial imagery. I’m drawn to images that linger – fragments of emotion, gestures suspended in time, narratives that resist resolution.
I’m in a constant state of learning – refining my visual language, experimenting with form, and building a body of work that feels both instinctive and deliberate.
Let’s create something that stays with you.
